Red Lion WC is a private wrestling club aimed at developing wrestlers into champions. We teach advanced technique focused on preparing our team for the next level of the sport regardless of age. The Root family has been involved in runnning wrestiling clubs for nearly 25 years. Ken Root was instramental in starting the original Cincinnati Wrestling Club as well as Prodigy. Ryan has been involved in starting four wrestling clubs in the last 15 years: Prodigy, Golden Cross, Pinnacle, and now Red Lion. Red Lion takes the best from each of the previous clubs and unites it into one organization. Joining Root is most of the LaSalle High School staff. Jeff Byrd, Max Byrd, and Jocque Boggs are familiar faces that built the Golden Cross program into what it is was. Neil Williams and Rico Hill along with Root, are new additions that will add to the clubs success.
Most clubs are aimed at getting as many kids as possible in the room to pay the bills. We our looking for quality not quantity. Our focus is on development. We run a college style workout while providing cutting edge technique. Our staff is focused on the growth of our wrestlers and our club. Wrestlers don't get better by going to a room that just runs live goes. We take a systematic approach to the sport. Our club will teach folkstyle, freestyle, and greco-roman wrestling. Our staff will travel the country to coach team members at scheduled events. In addition, Red Lion WC will assemble teams to represent the club at several national level events. Our aim is to continue to grow and develop our members to a national level. Wrestling is an ever-evolving sport, and therefore we take an ever-evolving teaching method.
Our practices are held in the LaSalle High School wrestling room. We are looking for a partner farther north to accommodate other interested families. We feel that if you are going to compete at the highest level, a certain level of commitment is required. We are looking for that commitment. Some will use this as a supplemental program others will focus in on full time training. Either option is available, but we move forward at a constant pace. Every day that is missed will leave a wrestler farther behind the rest of the group.
Our practices are similar to most club with three very notable differences.
1. Our club has a very defined technical agenda that focus on creating a foundation for these young men to build upon for years to come. We don't teach random moves. We have a very specific method of teaching that helps to maximize retention. We believe in chain wrestling, and focus heavily on helping our wrestlers to develop their own package of moves.
2. The philosophy of the coaching staff is to be in the corner of our members as much as possible so that we can learn from our competition and build on that in the practice room. What good is a coach that never coaches his teach in competition? In order to do this we plan to limit enrollment. We aren't lookin got be the biggest club, we are looking to be the best.
3. We believe that wrestlers of all ages should be learning advanced wrestling. Chain wrestling is paramount to a wrestlers development. We believe in strong fundamentals, but we also believe that these young men are sponges and have the capacity to learn an immense amount of technique if given the chance. We aim to push their limits and help them grow as wrestlers.
Don't be one of those parents that believe that your son will only get better by wrestling the best kid in town. The best kid might be a great wrestler, but someone needs to continue to develop the skillset and foundation from which your wrestler grows. We have seen hundreds of kids that were superstars in the youth ranks struggle in high school because they never really learned the sport. They got ahead of the curve or hit puberty early and then stopped learning. They thought they had it figured out because they won a state tile or placed at Tulsa. Let your child come and learn from a staff that understands how to develop wrestlers. Our staff believes in starting with high standards for everyone involved and then raising them.
